viva l'italia

Jen and I caught the Bloody Beetroots at Cinespace in Hollywood last night. Despite getting hassled by the incredible bitchy bouncers on our way in, the show was totally worth it. We rolled in around 11:15 and caught the end of Dan Oh's set in the front room, then we headed to the other room to check out Tronik Youth. Despite the mad press he's getting in the electro/dance blogosphere, we weren't entirely feeling it, mostly because we wanted to dance and he was spinning more slow jam sort of stuff. So we went back to the front room and raged to Them Jeans' set for a while. He played a couple of my favorites of the moment (namely, Kid Cudi & Treasure Fingers), so I really enjoyed his set. (And just for the record, he is mad tall.)

Around 12:30 we headed to the back room to see the Beetroots. They were ridiculously fun, starting from when they came out in matching outfits (Dim Mak, of course) and SpiderMan masks. They played some of their own stuff, some sick electro, and lots of hardcore rock, so everyone pretty much just raged the whole time. The area in front of the stage came dangerously close to becoming a mosh pit at one point (and we came dangerously close to being sucked in) but luckily people didn't go too crazy and things settle down before it got out of control. The Beetroots spun until about 1:55, when Cinespace's security shut them down (despite protests from both the DJ's and the crowd). Overall, it was gooood time and a fantastic way to spend what would have otherwise been a boring Tuesday night. And serious props to the Bloody Beetroots for being able to keep those masks on throughout their entire set. It got pretty damn hot in there and I know I would have lasted about 5 minutes in a poly/nylon/rayon/whatever mask.

*SPECIAL TREAT*

Here's link to the Kid Cudi track (remixed by Crookers) that I'm freaking obsessed with. Warning - you might find yourself listening to it repeatedly. For hours. Maybe days. And dancing.

Have fun!
