FOUND IT... aka quest for perfect la roux remix, PART II

Totally danceable + BONUS laser sound effects?

WIN!

La Roux // In for the Kill (Last Japan Skream Re-Edit) [via Tashed]

Check out Last Japan's MySpace here.

[EDIT]: Okay fine, on second listen the vocals sound a little wonky. A little messing with iTunes equalizer does the trick, but I kind of wish I had more sophisticated software to deal with it. They just need a little more lightness/echo...ness to match up with the super spacey sound effects. K done complaining back 2 work

physical attraction

I downloaded this mixtape by Little Boots forever ago, and hadn't listened to it since. Until tonight that is, and now I cannot stop listening to this ridiculous Madonna cover from Purple Crush. Thanks LB!

neon indian

I'm so down with all the mysterious music releases lately. Neon Indian is the latest. All they've said is that they're a girl from Brooklyn and a guy from Austin who collaborate Postal Service style (wow, I'm dating myself...) but Robot Dance Music claims they've both had commercial success in the past. Any guesses? Gang Gang & Fur in their top 8 is interesting...

I love this game.

Check it:

Neon Indian // Should have taken acid with you [via zShare via RDM]

Neon Indian // Seriously it's over-

& hit up their MySpace for a few other cool tracks I couldn't find for download anywhere.

WEIRD TAPES

I don't believe this has come up on this blog yet, but just in case you haven't heard:

Weird Tapes is the best thing ever.

That said, you should probably head over to their blog and download the two free EPs they have up, and the sick remix they did for Lost Valentinos, and the NEW sick remix they did for Datarock. Then while you're at it check out Memory Cassette, 'cos they are friends or collaborators or something I don't know it's all very mysterious.

So yes, go check that out. I promise it lives up to its name in both weirdness and tapey-ness, both of which are always a good thing.

la roux remix... x7

I'm pretty opinionated when it comes to remixes, so it's very rare that I find myself listening to different versions of the same song on repeat, trying to decide which is best. La Roux's "In For the Kill" has been remixed so many times in the past month, it's pretty obvious that plenty of other people (namely, DJs) are as infatuated with this track as I am. But which remix is the best??!

Seriously. This is difficult. The original is fun and poppy, but not quite dance floor-ready. The Max Heyes remix adds some much needed texture to the track, but doesn't go as far as some of the others in playing up the darkness of the lyrics/theme of the song. Skream's Let's Get Ravey remix has a SICK intro, but fails to drop the heavy bass when you think it's going to, until the last 50 seconds, which actually finally incorporate a little true "ravey"-ness into the track. It ends up being a really long, mellowed out track that honestly doesn't really go anywhere. Foamo's Skream Remix Bootleg has more texture than the other two, but it's almost TOO epic sounding. Definitely more suitable for a some sort of post-apocalyptic action film than a dance party. Heartbreak's remix is, eh. I guess it's meant to be italo-disco or whatever but t ends up just soundng way too '80s for my taste. L-Vis 1990 Hyper Bass Remix is just that. Hyper. Kind of gives me a headache. Normally I love The Twelves, but I don't know. Their remix is a little too peppy for this song. Also, the noises in the background sound like orca whales.

Conclusion -- for now I'm voting Foamo, but if someone else hijacked the Skream remix and made it a LITTLE more dance-y, I'd be down with that. Feel free to be really cool and productive like me and listen to all 7 versions of this song, and then draw your own conclusion.

anticipating veckatimest

Even though I've listened to that shit quality rip like 8 times, I'm so glad Grizzly Bear decided to go ahead and put out a full-quality preview track from their upcoming album Veckatimest. The fully-mastered "Cheerleader" is absolutely beautiful, and finally displays the amount of time and perfectionism put into Grizzly's recording process.

Check it out over at The Fader.

something on my mind...

Facebook changed again, and, like the last few times, the changes weren't necessarily for the better. It always seems that as bad as I think a Facebook change is, they never fail to followup with an even uglier and more confusing interface update.

Anyway, even though the last few times I've said I was quitting Facebook "forever" to protest the changes, this time, I really do anticipate distancing myself from the it considerably. I've realized that Facebook is trying way too hard to be EVERYTHING you would need on the Internet... a blog, a Twitter page, a Delicious account, a Flickr account, an online gaming site, etc, etc.

Yet, Facebook is none of those things, and thus it inevitably fails at offering a better version of any of those services. Facebook's prime was when it was one site, with one service -- a clean, easy-to-use social networking service that let you find friends and communicate them. By adding all these other bells and whistles, suddenly we're being overwhelmed with everyone and their mom's every move on the Internet. (Quite literally. I mean, even my mom's on FB now...)

So, I'm making it a resolution to move my online presence elsewhere. I'll use this blog for longer posts, my new Tumblr page for shorter ones, and against all expectations, I'm actually going to embrace the Twitter fad and move there for micro-updates. Lucky for you all, it'll all be here on my Blogger page. Oh, and I think I'm going start a Flickr account. I've been complaining about Facebook's shit photo service for long enough, so I figure it's about time to just give up on it.

Here's to a new era of web presence.

Love, peace, and RAWRz,
